Improved 2Q performance for DSONIC (5216): DATASONIC GROUP BHD as economy opens

KUALA LUMPUR: Security-related integrated ICT solutions provider Datasonic Group Bhd announced a stronger set of results for the second quarter ended Sept 30, 2021 following the reopening of the economy and believes the worst is behind it.

In a statement on Tuesday, it said Its 2QFY22 revenue increased by 65.3% on-quarter to RM28.7mil from RM17.4mil in the first quarter. Its 2QFY22 net profit was RM1mil versus a net loss of RM5.6mil in 1QFY22.

The top and bottom-line improvement was largely due to higher supply of passport and personalisation services.

Datasonic group managing director/CEO Wan Zalizan Wan Jusoh said: “We are delighted to see a turnaround in our 2QFY22 financial performance from the immediate preceding quarter in line with the reopening of the economy.

"We believe the worst is behind us and it will be brighter times ahead for Datasonic. In tandem with the reopening of international borders, we are seeing pent-up demand for passport. We are readying ourselves in anticipation of the surge in orders to ensure continuous and smooth delivery.

"We expect the demand to continue to be stronger and stronger with more quarantine-free travel arrangements between Malaysia and other countries,” he added.

Wan Zalizan added the company was approved the payment of the second interim dividend of 0.125 sen per share for the quarter under review.

“More excitingly, in the past week, we have secured the contracts extension for the supply of the Malaysian passport chips, passport booklets and polycarbonate biodata pages for another 24 months which worth about RM280mil.

"Datasonic has been the sole provider of e-Passport solutions to the Immigration Department of Malaysia since 2016 with excellent track record, delivery services and performance. The contracts extension will provide us great earnings visibility for the next 24 months,” he added.

Wan Zalizan said the outlook of Datasonic remains promising premised upon the above-mentioned factors as well as the various economic stimulus measures introduced by the government in line with the National Digital Transformation.

"Thus, we are positive that the coming quarters will be better for Datasonic barring any unforeseen circumstances. The group’s order book stands at approximately RM420.2mil as of Sept 30,2021 and it is in a net cash position," he said.
