Macpie to buy 35% stake in Techninier for RM90 mil
KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 2): Macpie Bhd has inked a heads of agreement (HOA) to acquire up to 35% stake in Techninier Sdn Bhd, a software and mobile game development company.
The agreement was signed between Macpie and Datin Soh Meizhi, who is also Techninier director and chief financial officer, for the proposed acquisition of 280,000 ordinary shares for RM90 million.
Pursuant to the HOA, the parties have agreed to enter into a definitive agreement within 60 days from the completion of a valuation on Techninier.
In a statement with Bursa Malaysia today, Macpie, which engages in event management and communication products distribution businesses, said the proposed acquisition would strengthen its digital and e-sports events business.
“With this acquisition, Macpie will be able to launch more e-sports tournaments and digital events more frequently,” it said.
Macpie foresees synergy working with the team from Techninier to deploy online gaming events, digital conferences, mobile content creation and e-sports platform as it steers its business ventures around the Covid-19 pandemic to capture new audiences in the online marketplace.
Citing data from e-sports analytics provider, Newzoo, Macpie said Malaysia has 20.1 million gamers and spent US$673 million (RM2.7 billion) on gaming items in 2019.
“Macpie aspires to capture a fraction of the market,” it said.
