MAXIS (6012) - Maxis Q1 earnings at RM410m, up 21% on-quarter

KUALA LUMPUR: Maxis Bhd’s earning rose 21% to RM410mil in the first quarter ended March 31, 2015 from the preceding quarter’s RM339mil, riding on the positive momentum from its transformation initiatives
It said on Monday the positive momentum from the initiatives in Maxis was driving operational indicators upwards.
“For the first time since 2010, the company bucked the trend of a traditionally slow first quarter to deliver a service revenue of RM2.127bil, up 1.6% from Q4 2014. The quarter also saw Maxis adding 328,000 new revenue generating subscriptions (RGS), bringing its total RGS base to 12 million,” it said.
“The company registered solid subscriber growth and enhanced data usage driven by winning value propositions and a high performing network in its first quarter of 2015,” it said.
Earnings per share were 5.5 sen compared with the 4.5 sen in the previous quarter. It rewarded shareholders with a dividend of five sen a share.
Maxis said its Q1 earnings bucked the trend of a traditionally slow first quarter – a stronger Q1 2015 vs Q4 2014. Service revenue rose 1.6% to RM2.127bil while EBITDA improved 4.7% to RM1.047bil.
“Strong customer traction with 328,000 added. After four consecutive quarters of growth, prepaid revenue grew 4.5%,” it said.
In Q1, 2014, it posted earnings of RM484mil on the back of RM2.119bil in revenue.
