All 60 and above, those who took Sinovac have to get third shot by February or lose fully vaccinated status, says Khairy

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 16): All those aged 60 and above and those who took Sinovac have to get a third shot by February or will be deemed not fully vaccinated, said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said in a Thursday (Dec 16) statement that all recipients of the Sinovac vaccine or individuals above 60 years of age need to receive a third shot by February 2022 at the latest.

“If they do not get booster doses after February 2022, vaccination status will be deemed not fully vaccinated. They will not be eligible for the facilities provided to those who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19,” he said.

According to him, the move was in line with the proposal by the World Health Organization (WHO), through its Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE).

He also said the proposal was confirmed by the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force Booster (CITF-B) on Dec 8.

He also said the Drug Control Authority has approved the Comirnaty vaccine produced by Pfizer-BioNTech, CoronaVac vaccine produced by Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccine for use as a booster dose.

“Further to that, the Technical Working Committee has recommended a booster dose given to all residents aged 18 years and above,” he added.
