REGIONAL markets climbed on Wednesday, steered by wide expectations that the US Federal Reserve will be in no hurry to raise interest rates even as the US economy continues to gain traction.
Federal Reserve officials have expressed willingness to wait for an extended period before raising interest rates. This comes amid concerns over weak economic growth in Europe and other parts of the globe, in sharp contrast to the US.
The widely watched Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 187.81 points or 1.12% to close at 17,005.75 while the S&P gained 23.42 points or 1.19% to close at 1,985.05 on Tuesday.
My portfolio value went down by 0.40% to RM 106,404, as compared to FBM KLCI’s increase of 0.76%, which was boosted mostly by index-linked plantation stocks that reacted positively to the implementation of the B7 biodiesel programme in November.
Total returns for the portfolio declined from 6.8% to 6.4%.
The portfolio started on 8 July 2014 with a capital of RM100,000. Since then, it has outperformed the FBM KLCI by 9.2%, and has registered an annualised return of 20.5%.
There was a mix of gainers and losers in my portfolio on Wednesday.
Notable gainers include my newest and oldest purchases, namely SLP (+3.6%), and KSL (+1.4%) respectively.
The losers were Crescendo Holdings (-3.5%) and Willowglen MSC (-0.6%).
I kept the portfolio unchanged.
